Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 13, 2026
1. Who we are
Modar LLC (“Modar”, “we”, “us”) is a limited liability company registered in the United States, located at 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, STE R, Albuquerque, NM 87110, USA. We are responsible for the personal information processed through the services described below.
2. What this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- modar.cc — our company website;
- Aelati (عائلتي) — our family mobile app for iOS and Android;
- Shjrti (شجرتي) — our family-tree web platform at shjrti.com;
together, the “Services”. Where a section applies to only one Service, we say so.
3. Information we collect
3.1 modar.cc
- Messages you send us. The contact form does not store anything on our servers — it opens your own email app with your name, email and message pre-filled. We receive what you choose to send.
- Language preference, saved only in your browser.
- Technical data such as IP address and browser type, processed by our hosting and content-delivery provider to deliver and protect the site.
3.2 Aelati
- Account information: name, phone number, profile photo, and — if you sign in with Google or Apple — your email address.
- Family information: the families you create or join, members and their roles (for example parent, son, daughter), and invitations.
- Content you add: chat messages (text, photos, videos and voice messages), albums, documents, calendar events, tasks, shopping lists, trips, places and vehicles.
- Location: if you turn on location sharing, your device’s precise location is collected — including in the background while the app is closed — and your most recent location is shared with your family members. For this feature we keep the latest location, not a location history; a location you send as a chat message is kept like other messages. Your precise location is also used to show local weather and prayer times (see section 6). You can turn location sharing off in the app or in your device settings at any time.
- Health information: medications, dosages, schedules and dose logs you choose to record, and children’s vaccination records.
- Religious practice: prayer logs and children’s worship tracking you choose to record.
- Financial and planning information: budgets, debts, zakat assets and calculations, and will sections you choose to record.
- Emergency contacts: names and phone numbers you add, used to send SOS alerts.
- Subscription information: your plan, purchase status and invoice history. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we do not receive your card details.
- Device and security information: device type, operating system, push notification token, IP address, sign-in and one-time-code logs, and crash and performance diagnostics.
- Usage information: which features are used, to improve the app.
Aelati may ask for device permissions including camera, photos and media, microphone, location (including background location), notifications and biometrics. You can refuse or withdraw any permission in your device settings; the related feature will then not work.
3.3 Shjrti
- Account information: name, email address, phone number (optional), password (stored hashed) or Google sign-in, and preferences such as theme and date format.
- Family tree information: names, gender, dates of birth and death, whether a person is living, biographies, photos, marital status and family relationships of the people you add.
- Photos and memories: images and files you upload, captions, dates, tags and face-tag positions.
- Collaboration data: email addresses of people you invite, and the name and email of visitors who suggest edits to a shared tree.
- Payment information: plan, invoices and payment status. Card and PayPal payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal; we store only reference identifiers, not full card numbers. When a purchase completes, a conversion event with the transaction reference may be sent to Google Ads to measure our advertising.
- Security information: sign-in attempts, including email, IP address and browser details, to protect accounts from abuse.
- Other: contact-form messages, newsletter subscriptions, and your cookie choices.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide the Services and the features you choose to use;
- create and secure your account, including verifying sign-in codes and detecting abuse;
- process subscriptions, payments, renewals and refunds;
- send service messages such as verification codes, invitations, notifications and SOS alerts;
- provide support and respond to your requests;
- diagnose errors and improve reliability and performance;
- understand how the Services are used so we can improve them;
- send you notifications about features and offers in our own apps, based on how you use them — you can turn notifications off in your device settings;
- measure the effectiveness of our own advertising for Shjrti; and
- comply with law and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on:
- performing our contract with you — providing accounts, families, trees, content, subscriptions and support;
- your consent — location sharing, promotional notifications, and the health, religious and children’s information you choose to record. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning the feature off or deleting that information;
- our legitimate interests — securing the Services, preventing abuse, diagnosing errors and improving the Services; and
- legal obligations — keeping financial records and responding to lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Shjrti uses Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement as described in sections 6 and 13; depending on where you live, this may be considered “sharing” for advertising purposes. To opt out, email me@modar.cc.
5. How we share information
- With the people you choose. In Aelati, content, location and other information you share within a family are visible to that family’s members. In Shjrti, a tree is visible to collaborators you invite and to anyone you give a share link to, according to the privacy settings you choose.
- With the service providers and third-party services described in section 6.
- With authorized Modar staff, only as needed to provide support, investigate problems or enforce our terms. For support purposes, authorized staff may view the Services as a specific user sees them.
- For legal reasons, when required by law or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the public or Modar.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, subject to this policy.
The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
6. Service providers
We use the following providers and services. We aim to send each only the information needed for its task.
- Cloud database, authentication and file storage: Supabase (all Services).
- Website hosting and delivery: Cloudflare (modar.cc); Lovable (Shjrti).
- Sign-in: Google and Apple, if you choose to sign in with them.
- Payments and subscriptions: Apple App Store, Google Play and RevenueCat (Aelati); Stripe and PayPal (Shjrti).
- SMS and verification codes: Twilio and Infobip (Aelati).
- Email delivery: Resend (Shjrti).
- Push notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging by Google (Aelati).
- Crash and performance reporting: Sentry (Aelati).
- Analytics, advertising measurement and bot protection: Google Analytics, Google Ads conversion measurement and Google reCAPTCHA (Shjrti).
- Maps, weather and prayer times: OpenStreetMap (including its Nominatim place-name service), Open-Meteo and Aladhan (Aelati). These are public third-party services, not processors under contract with us. When you use these features, they receive your precise location coordinates and standard request data, and handle them under their own privacy policies.
- Search: OpenAI, which receives the text of searches you run in Shjrti’s smart search.
- Fonts and icons: Google Fonts and public code libraries, which receive standard browser request data.
7. Information about other people
Our Services let you record information about people other than yourself — family members, relatives in a family tree (including living relatives), and emergency contacts. When you do so, you are responsible for having the right to share that information and for respecting those people’s privacy. Shjrti lets tree owners limit how women’s names and photos appear in shared trees; other information about people in a shared tree — including living relatives’ names, dates and photos — is visible to anyone with access to that tree. If you believe information about you has been added without your permission, contact us and we will review it.
8. Children
Aelati is designed for families. Family members can record information about children, such as vaccination and worship records, and a user can join a family in a child’s role (for example son or daughter). Our Terms require account holders to be at least 13 years old, and users under 18 to have a parent or guardian’s permission. We do not currently verify users’ ages, so we rely on parents and guardians to supervise their children’s use. Shjrti is intended for users aged 13 and over. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information without a parent or guardian’s consent, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Retention and deletion
- We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services.
- Aelati: you can delete your account and data from Settings → Delete Account & Data. Shjrti: you can delete your account from your account settings. You can also email us to request deletion.
- When you delete your account, we delete your account and the content you own. Content you shared with others — for example messages already delivered to a family chat — may remain visible to them.
- We keep some information after deletion where necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or legal obligations: invoices and financial records; and, for Aelati, a deletion record containing the name, phone number and email address on the account, the family it belonged to, and any reason you gave for deleting. We keep these only as long as needed for those purposes or as required by law.
- Items you move to the trash in Aelati may remain there until you delete them permanently or delete your account.
- Deleted information may remain in backups for a limited period before it is overwritten.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), access controls that restrict each user to their own and their family’s data, hashed passwords, and restricted staff access. Messages and files are protected in transit and at rest by our providers, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live — including under U.S. state privacy laws, the EU/UK GDPR, and Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law — you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
- receive your information in a portable format;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that already took place; and
- complain to your local data protection authority.
You can edit most information directly in the Services. For anything else, email me@modar.cc. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Deleting your account without the app: to delete your Aelati or Shjrti account and its data, email me@modar.cc from the email address or with the phone number linked to your account, stating which Service you use. We will confirm once the deletion is complete.
Do Not Track: our Services do not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
12. International transfers
Modar is based in the United States and our providers operate in several countries. Your information may therefore be processed outside the country where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as contractual protections offered by our providers.
13. Cookies and similar technologies
- modar.cc does not use advertising or analytics cookies. It stores your language choice in your browser, and our delivery provider may set strictly necessary security cookies.
- Shjrti uses necessary cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, and uses Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion measurement. Shjrti’s cookie settings record your preferences, but they do not currently stop Google Ads conversion measurement when a payment completes. To opt out of analytics and advertising measurement, email me@modar.cc.
- Aelati uses device storage to keep you signed in and remember your settings.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you through the Services or by email before they take effect.
